Sewing my own Clothes - Why is it so exciting?

When I woke up yesterday, I had the plans to do TWO things (one but you know mamas get in the way):

Drop my nieces and nephew off to their nana.

Host my first sewing class.

Did that happen? No. Now let's storytime.

1. Them Kids.

I can't help but be the auntie who goes "are you even learning in school? let's confirm". I'll typically place an emphasis on art/expression. For the last several years, we started off going to parks and just generally being within the community. Now, we're starting to explore local art districts, museums, and galleries. Yesterday we went to a smaller gallery for photography after discussing topics like "what is art?" and "what does it mean to express yourself?". I'm currently waiting on a video in which the middle is supposed to be reciting a poem from her graduation.

Their response to the gallery? So so. They observed. But there was A LOT in the place, beyond the gallery, so they were keen to exploring everything. My tip (which really was given to me):

Just take the kids places. They will respond however THEY want to. They still get the benefit.

(The aftermath of going to a *fine art* museum)

Sincerely, someone who took they ass to a drumming circle and two ran around the entire time and asked when we was bouta go.

For YEARS, we meet at this halfway point between where their mother stays and where we stay at this gas station that was eventually torn down. There's an adultstore right beside it, so we just kinda transitioned to meeting there. The police were called once. My nephew had to remind me to go to another nearby gas station this time (not nice people).

I tried concluding my trip by finding some country person nearby who was selling a vintage Japanese sewing machine but they all reply so SLOW. As my daddy says "don't nobody wanna make no money!".

2. The class.

Well, I'm driving back and I go "hmph". Cause you see earlier that day, I called my homie to discuss this workshop that was happening later. They immediately go "Do you want tickets to see Megan the Stallion?". Now of course I said yes, and I asked "when will you know if we got them?" And she said soon. Roc Nation gave concert tickets to organizers. Hmph.

Well soon to me is an hour, and multiple had passed. So I'm brainstorming at the least (what the hell ima wear). I decide, Girl you been making stuff anyway, go ahead. You got this NEW machine, put her to work!

(my new super cool machine, that is NOT new lol. also let me know if you need ta manual! It's a Super De Luxe 142-B)

So I easily aim for the bubble skirt dress, having already done the skirt alone, and wanting to explore top making. (I have such fun ideas for graphics to enter into my text, but alas, don't feel like creating them. I would.... like to compensate and graphic designer though.... and a videographer).

I have to drop my mom's car off

2. go to joannes for notions and thread, and possibly trim

3. cut my fabric (pattern was already made)

4. Sew

5. Shir

6. Attach

and just get the damn thing done. But don't forget.

Tonight was my first sewing teach-in.

SO, I was torn between (should I cancel? how can I navigate this?) (I also was torn between who to invite with me since I was supposedly getting two tickets, there was my cousin and this girl who I did NOT want to be with, but I knew wanted to go).

You can watch me flay to make the garment on any of my platforms.

I attended both events.

No one (maybe one person?) came to the teach in.

But I got creative. I saw a video on being consistent to your community, even in the form of followers/viewers. (which is why pabloskywalkin is GREAT).

I went live on instagram. I posted the whole process! Which made me proud like "even if I cancel, my community has something".

'm now hoping to go live on Youtube, since it could capture more people. Which means I am 35 subscribers away from that! I have not asked for subscribers but... let's community build!

I have this dream that all the older people who sew in the Facebook groups I'm in will join in and become mentors to all the people surfing Youtube hoping to learn to sew.

*sigh* I wanted you all to click on my other platforms but ima treat yall. Here's the finished product (and if it doesn't load, now you HAVE to go click a link)
